Our Doctors

Dr. William Ritz

Dr. Bill Ritz began his involvement with this practice in 1963, when he joined the late Dr. Bernard Forrest. A native of Ohio, Dr. Ritz received two Bachelor of Science degrees from Ohio State University. One degree is in physiological optics and one in optometry. He then attended the University of Houston where he earned his Doctorate degree. He and his wife Nancy have three children: Nick, Dan and Patty, his sons, Nick and Dan are also Optometric physicians. Patty is attending and is on staff at Harvard University, while living in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Dr. Ray Johnson

Dr. Ray Johnson is a Florida native. He was born and raised in south Florida where he met his wife Linda. They have two children, a son, Ray Jr. and a daughter Karen. Both of his children are married and each has two children. Dr. Johnson attended Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee, where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree and his Doctor of Optometry Degree. After college, he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving as base Optometrist at Holloman

AFG in southern New Mexico. He returned to Florida in 1970 and joined Dr. Ritz here in Ocala. Dr. Johnson is very active in his church and other organizations and enjoys golf, scuba diving and motorcycle riding.

Dr. Scott Willeford

Dr. Willeford is a native of Ohio, who graduated high school in Lake Worth, Florida. After receiving a degree from Florida State University he went on to graduate from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale There he received a Bachelors degree in Vision Science with highest honors. His doctor of optometry degree from Nova Southeastern was also received with highest honors. Dr. Willeford was selected to be a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honors Society. He also is a past president of the North Central Florida Optometric Society. He specialized in pediatrics, contact lenses and low vision.

Dr. Willeford has an interest in music. He has been a professional trumpet player in both Marion and Palm Beach counties. He also enjoys tennis, jogging, mountain biking and basketball.

He and his wife Mardi are proud to be part of the community of Ocala. They are especially pleased with their son Scotty, who is currently an honor student at Osceola Middle School.

Dr. Jerry Cheney

Dr. Cheney joined the practice in 1999 after practicing for several years in Massachusetts and Daytona Beach. Dr. Cheney, a native of Texas, received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Lamar University and received a Ph.D. in Biological Oceanography from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. He earned his Doctorate in optometry in 1994 from the New England College of Optometry and then completed a one-year residency at the VA Medical Center in Brockton and West Roxbury

Massachusetts. Dr. Cheney and his wife Marianne, have two sons, Michael and Christopher. He enjoys golf, tennis and water sports.
